ELIJAH’S EMOTIONAL STRUGGLE

Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7
ELIJAH’S EMOTIONAL STRUGGLE
Elijah was a mighty servant of God, but he was still human. After a great victory on Mount Carmel where God answered his prayer with fire from heaven Jezebel threatened his life. The threat along with fear stress exhaustion and emotional pressure became too much for him. And He says to God
“It is enough now O LORD take away my life.” 1 Kings 19:4
THREAT → FEAR → EXHAUSTION → ISOLATION → HOPELESSNESS
UNDERSTANDING ELIJAH’S STRUGGLE
Fear response: - Jezebel threatened Elijah, so he ran away. Fear took control of his thoughts and actions.
Emotional exhaustion: - After intense pressure and ministry Elijah became physically and emotionally drained.
Negative thinking: - Elijah felt that he was alone. His thinking became limited and he could no longer see the bigger picture.
Hopelessness: - Under the broom tree Elijah felt that he had reached his limit. He could not see a way forward.
HOW GOD HELPED ELIJAH THROUGH THE CRISIS
Rest & recovery: - God first provided sleep food and water. Before addressing Elijah’s thoughts God cared for his exhausted body.
Emotional expression:- God asked Elijah, “What are you doing here Elijah?” Elijah was given space to express what he was experiencing instead of keeping everything inside.
Cognitive correction :- Elijah thought he was completely alone. God showed him that his perception was not the whole reality. There were still 7,000 people in Israel who had not bowed to Baal.
Connection & purpose :- God renewed Elijah’s purpose gave him further instructions and brought Elisha into his journey.
My fear was real but fear did not define me. My thoughts felt overwhelming but they were not the whole truth.
